Cavities are permanent damage to teeth that require treatment by a dentist. The treatment depends on the severity of the cavity. If a cavity is very small, and it hasn’t spread beyond your enamel yet, then you may be able to remineralize your tooth with fluoride treatments and improved oral hygiene. If the cavity spreads to your dentin, you’ll need a filling, crown or other dental restoration to fix it.
